FIRST SOIREE

The first soiree for our year had a basis in Language du géste, Half-mask and melodrama.

Language du geste is a form of physical based story telling in which the actors take the form of characters, sceneri, sound and music to recreate a film or narrative that is known to the onlooker.

I participated in a piece that was based on Django Unchained a difficult task not only because of the imitation of Tarantino's iconic movie style but also the obvious racial element.

Half-mask as can be seen to the right utilises half-mask to act out human comedy. The comedy of the suffering of man. Taking from the traditions of Commedia dell'arte we explore the energy and the tempo of the mask allowing us to later persue more then human characters and acting.

I participated in creating two half-mask pieces. A poisioning of a mafia boss and also a battle of romance between two elderly gentlemen.

In melodrama we explored how to create tension between characters and also what causes an audience to cry. I particiapted in two melodramas that unfortunately did not make it to the final soiree.
